SAN JOSE, Calif. (KRON) – San Jose officials commemorated the ground breaking of a affordable housing development for chronically homeless people.
The Immanuel-Sobrato Community development will provide 108 permanent supportive affordable homes and is the first redevelopment of a place of worship in San Jose.
The new affordable homes will be available to residents referred directly for the County of Santa Clara.

Community Organizing
In February of 2019, our church initiated a campaign to reach out to our neighbors with the intention of listening to their stories about living in the Richmond Menker area near San Jose City College. We started with a series of workshops focused on building our leadership skills and learning about Community Organizing.
Scripture Focus
Our Congregation prayed and reflected on four scripture verses from the Bible.
Mathew 13: The Parable of the Sower who scatters seed on different types of soil.
Acts 9: Peter heals Tabitha and breathes new life into her.
Hebrews 13: God calls on us to welcome the stranger in our community.
Hebrews 11: We are called to put our faith in action.
Listening and Action
Immanuel hosted several community meetings, we talked with neighbors, and reached out to allies. We did a lot of listening and settled on a course of action to build housing for the most in need. Click here to view more about what we are planning.
